With its world-traveler theme in tow, Prada’s fall ’16 women’s collection — shown during Milan Fashion Week — caught our eye with its fresh takes on nomadic footwear. And now we have a closer look at the runway shoes.
Designer Miuccia Prada heightened the traverser laceups in different forms: think hikers, but reworked with wedge heels that had nautical detailing. The style was done in an ankle or below-the-knee height, and was paired with ribbed or argyle wool socks. Multicolored laces also lent a sporty feel.
Shiny patents also made up a large portion of the collection. The leathers were colorblocked in ankle-strap sandals — green with black, red with blue — and finished with a large golden buckling. A patent ankle boot was especially eye-catching.
Chunkier ankle styles had thick rubber lug soles and contrasting leather pops, like a yellow toe cap or red tongue. Similar colorways were seen in the brand’s fall ’16 men’s show, proving the cross-gender design process is only growing stronger.
Though past Prada collections have seen a stronger assortment of shoes that could stand on their own, the styling here is what made the whole thing shine. It’s almost as though the socks must be worn with the shoes. Socks not optional.
